Member of Parliament for Etobicoke Centre
A third generation Ukrainian-Canadian and local business owner, Borys Wrzesnewskyj proudly represented Etobicoke Centre in the Canadian House of Commons from 2004 to 2011 and is honoured to do so again.
Borys received his Bachelor of Commerce from Trinity College – University of Toronto in 1983 and quickly gravitated towards humanitarian and pro-democracy work – helping organize and finance the People’s Movement of Ukraine in the late 1980s, and supporting Ukraine’s referendum for independence in 1991. Borys envisioned, initiated and co-organized the historic 500 person Canadian observer mission headed by former PM John Turner to the contested Ukrainian election during the Orange Revolution of 2004.
In Parliament, Borys has been the Opposition Critic for various portfolios including Citizenship and Immigration, Crown Corporations, Foreign Affairs, and Multiculturalism. In 2008, he was awarded the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise by the Ukrainian President for his distinguished services to the people of Ukraine. In 2014 he was awarded the Knight’s Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland by Poland’s President for work on Canada Poland relations.
Borys is fluent in English, Ukrainian, Polish, and conversant in French. He is the owner of Future Bakery Limited and M-C Dairy Limited.
