It is an honour to once again represent the people of Etobicoke Centre in Canada’s House of Commons, helping to deliver the #RealChange that Canadians asked for on October 19th.
I am pleased to report to you that, over the first few months of the new Parliamentary session, the Government of Canada has expeditiously moved the introduction of a number of important pieces of legislation including Bill C-2 to cut income taxes for the middle class, and Bill C-6 to ensure that all Canadian citizens have the same rights.
I am also pleased to report to you that I had the honour of being elected as the Chair of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration (CIMM). CIMM studies matters related to the mandate, management and operation of the Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. I look forward to working with my colleagues from all parties serving on the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration as we review the work of the Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, as well as any legislation referred to the Committee by the House of Commons. As Chair, I will use my best efforts and skills to ensure that our committee work is constructive and respectful of the institution of the House of Commons.

These include my efforts to stop night overflights from Pearson Airport over our neighbourhoods, my work in Committee reviewing the effectiveness of the Government’s refugee policies and our handling of biometric data of landed immigrants as well as Canadian citizens, and my participation in a diplomatic mission to Ukraine on behalf of the Government of Canada, along with Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Dion.
Thank you for your support as we work to build a better quality of life here in Etobicoke and a Canada that is a global example of the art of the possible.
